The "Glass Forest" at Weißenstein

Unique in ArberLand: In Weißenstein, right next to the castle ruins, there is a glass forest. Glass and forest combined – where else, if not on the Glass Road in the Bavarian Forest?

The "Glass Forest" is directly on the quarz rock. In an area of 2,000 square metres, the Bavarian Forest can be seen in its original form of mixed forest, but in the form of glass.

Silver Firs as Lustrous Green Glass
Up to 4.5 metres high, the "silver firs" made out of 8mm thick, light green shimmering glass reach up towards the sky. Without doubt: once seen, never forgotten.

A visit to the "Glass Forest" is particularly wonderful at sunset or sunrise. The light has a particular effect on the glass. The artist Rudi Schmid, also famous for his glass barn amongst other things, put the idea of Charly Rödl, former head of tourism in Zwiesel, into effect. It was worth it.
