Sport and relaxation: Boating on the Regen

"It’s just like Canada!" Many holiday visitors to the County of Regen have been delighted to make this discovery. Gliding over the water, experiencing the wild and romantic natural environment of ArberLand from a completely new perspective: sport and relaxation at the same time.

The enthusiasm of so many guests clearly proves that a canoe tour on the unspoilt river Regen is one of the most beautiful experiences in the Bavarian Forest. Both beginners and experienced paddlers can enjoy themselves on the "Black Regen" in ArberLand. It doesn’t matter whether you plunge the paddle into the water with all your strength or gently go with the flow of the water: you will pass unspoilt nature, undiscovered animal world, dense forest, imposing rocks and picturesque villages.

Celebrate when you first navigate rocks and rapids. Don’t worry: experienced canoeists will instruct you in the most important technicalities. Along the river are plenty of opportunities to take a break at an inn, which will serve you regional specialities. And if you want to stop for longer, what about a night in one of the camp sites along the river bank?

Suggested Tour: From Gumpenried to Viechtach
At the very beginning, the Black Regen is waiting with the Gumpenried rapids, which even hydrophobic paddlers have to navigate. Then it goes more gently onwards, past beaver dams, imposing rock faces and places where you can see Danube salmon leaping – later they can grow to more than 1 metre.

Suggested Tour: Oleumhütte - Auerkiel – Teisnach
A particularly lovely stretch of river, known as "little Canada". We recommend that ambitious paddlers take the full day tour to Teisnach.

Important:
Canoe hire

The Regen is wide enough for single boats from Regen, and for 2 boats from Viechtach-Schnitzmühle, all year round. Between Zwiesel and Viechtach there are 9 places where boats have to be carried.
