Literature and Libraries in ArberLand

Literature from the Bavarian Forest is based in the local culture but not folksy. It is challenging and sometimes even goes against the grain. The "lichtung Verlag" in Viechtach wants to ‘pull back the cover’ on folklore. Travel books, illustrated books, poetry, satire, plays, biography, art: Bavarian Forest literature covers a wide spectrum.

Morsak Verlag in Grafenau is aiming to build up a "Bavarian Forest Library" which will reflect and document the scenery, people, culture, history and development of the region. In the "magazin lichtung" Django Asül has published his first satires and ironical commentaries. "lichtung" and „Morsak“ publish a high proportion of the works of living Bavarian Forest authors.
