Bavarian Forest Natural Park: Living Environmental Protection

Naturschutzgebiet
Orchids, arnica, otters, fresh water pearl mussels and bats. Many plants and animals threatened with extinction grow and flourish in the Bavarian Forest Natural Park. Black storks, peregrine falcons and lynx have also returned to ArberLand. The high point of a wonderful holiday is to hike along nature trails and admire the natural features.

The Bavarian Forest Natural Park lies in the South East of Germany, along the Bavarian-Bohemian border. To the east, it borders the Bavarian Forest National Park and to the north, the Upper Bavarian Forest Natural Park. On the Czech side is the Bohemian Forest National Park and Nature Protection Area.

The most important function of the Natural Park is to preserve the centuries old agricultural landscape of the Bavarian Forest between the Danube and the Great Arber. An excellent ecological example is set by the Natural Park Information House at Zwiesel which is heated all year by solar energy.
